We welcome new and unusual requests. - [Home](https://www.robineaster.com/): With over three decades dedicated to our craft, our commitment to creativity remains unwavering. We specialize in custom, one-of-a-kind branding that sets our clients apart from the competition through thoughtful and intentional design. Our approach is anything but cookie-cutter. It’s about listening to your vision and translating it into something compelling and unforgettable through our time-tested branding process. We ensure this vision is reflected across all touchpoints of your brand, whether it’s unique menus and signage for your dining experience, an informative wayfinding system, a user-friendly website, or a campaign for your brand launch. We can’t wait to see what project you have for us next. ## Work - [Maker Exchange](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/maker-exchange/): Maker Exchange is a restaurant and bar, coffee shop, private events space and shoppable Curio of ever-changing maker work. Robin Easter Design was hired by Rockbridge to consult and coordinate with the Knoxville community to shape the concept of a space that would serve the local community as well as visitors to the adjacent hotels. We named the space, Maker Exchange, and represented the concept of “collection” through the branding with varying textures, colors and letterforms. The mashup of custom-made letters in the logo intentionally “exchange”. We approached murals and signage as works of art, bringing on various makers to bring it to life. In addition we curated all of the permanent art and much of the handmade furniture.  - [Vow’d](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/vowd/): National bridal retailer Vow’d strives to provide every bride with a beautifully crafted dress at an honest price and a shopping experience that’s uncomplicated and fun. While many bridal shops go for understated and minimal design, we created a brand with an approachable, celebratory spirit to match their vision and stand out in the industry. Since entering the wedding industry scene in the height of the pandemic crisis, their brand was able to launch them into immediate success with over ten locations and counting nationwide. - [Wild Love Bakehouse](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/wild-love-bakehouse/): For Wild Love Bakehouse, the branding process embraced the bakery’s spirited, inclusive essence with vibrant mid-mod colors and playful typography. The hand-drawn croissant logo symbolizes handmade goodness, complemented by sweet illustrations that embody their commitment to fun, local flavors and the highest quality. From stamped coffee cups to vibrant signage, every detail reflects the love and creativity baked into every treat, creating a cohesive and inviting brand identity. - [Hedstrom](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/hedstrom/): For Hedstrom’s website, our design process focused on creating a space that allows their landscaping design to shine. We complemented their thoughtful designs with attention to fine details, ensuring a clean flow and ample breathing room, ultimately highlighting the beauty and precision of their work. - [Downtown Knoxville Alliance](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/downtown-knoxville/): Downtown Knoxville Central Business Improvement District (CBID) was in need of a brand refresh and struggled with the organization’s long name and how to promote the district. The CBID name was beyond clunky, and much like the old logo, it did not adequately represent downtown’s vibrant, welcoming environment and independent spirit. We proposed a name change for the organization to simply Downtown Knoxville Alliance, and introduced a logo that is more in keeping with downtown’s dynamic and multifaceted personality. - [NavSav](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/navsav/): A new insurance company came to us looking to stand out in a very crowded industry. To avoid typical corporate insurance vibes, we developed a modern, colorful brand with an independent spirit. NavSav’s brand concept of providing clients with more choices, allowing them to navigate to savings, informed our decisions for the company name, messaging and visuals. - [Seven Islands State Birding Park](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/seven-islands-state-birding-park/): Seven Islands State Birding Park, a premier birding destination, sought to engage visitors of all ages through interpretive signage. We featured custom illustrations of the birds with dimensional layering of wood, rusted steel and colorful sign panels to add texture and play to the barn walls. The interpretive display through the barn and free standing signs throughout the park teach visitors about the birds and their habitat. - [Two Bikes](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/two-bikes/): Knoxville’s friendliest bike shop is also a force to be reckoned with in its community give-back mindset. The brand needed to feel friendly and approachable for even the most novice of bikers. The singularity of the bright blue gives strong brand recognition while playful type and illustration add energy and charm. Beyond aesthetics, Two Bikes has evolved into a community pillar, giving back by fixing and donating bikes to the community. - [Black Lillies](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/black-lillies/): The Black Lillies wanted a retro collage approach to their album Stranger to Me. The bright up-beat nature of the music came through in the color palette. The surrealist album art was inspired by the album title and imagery conjured by common themes in the lyrics. We chose a transparent light blue mottled vinyl to compliment the dreamy clouds within the design. - [Peter Kern](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/peter-kern/): Peter Kern Library is a speakeasy in The Oliver Hotel, located in the original Kern’s Bakery building built in 1875. The hotel established the theme of a library, with menus built into old encyclopedias. We illustrated a portrait of Peter Kern and played up the literary theme in the print materials. The menus are inspired by late 19th century book design, the food menu is a bookmark and the checks are presented in a manila library pocket. We went for an understated sophistication overall to match the vibe of the bar. - [The Best of Tennessee](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/the-best-of-tennessee/): The Best of Tennessee is a bi-partisan organization who’s mission is to bring about more effective government by bringing the Tennessee legislature back to the middle and away from extremism. They wanted a contemporary brand that would stand apart from typical political branding. For the logo we created a modern version of the state of Tennessee that is also a ribbon, representing the best. A bold gradient of red and blue blending to form purple is the primary motif of the brand. - [Tennessee Theatre Book](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/tennessee-theatre/): This bespoke hardback book telling the history of the theatre was commission by the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation and written by Jack Neely. We wanted to create a jewel for your coffee table, just as the theatre is a gem in our community. To capture the dazzle and opulence of the theatre in the book, all of the elements were illustrated from details and patterns within the theatre. We gilded with gold as much as the budget would allow.  - [Knoxville Police Department](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/knoxville-police-department/): To boost the Knoxville Police Department’s recruiting efforts, we collaborated with Ackerman Marketing & PR to implement a new brand identity and marketing campaign. To solidify their reputation as a safe and supportive community pillar, our approach features engaging messaging, bold graphics, and relatable faces as the core elements, while modern interpretations pay homage to classic police force memorabilia. We brought in Loch + Key to create an engaging community oriented video to entice new officers. KPD was so thrilled with the identity for recruiting they asked us to apply the branding to KPD as a whole. To enhance and unify their digital presence, we designed and developed a fresh new website for the department. - [Good Golly Tamale](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/good-golly-tamale/): Building on their established brand, Good Golly tasked us with creating apparel and redesigning their website to celebrate the simplicity and joy of tamale-making through quirky illustrations and a playful attitude. Each element on the website was carefully crafted to evoke the warmth and charm of Good Golly. These illustrations not only adorn the apparel but also infuse the website with a lighthearted spirit that reflects our passion for authentic, handmade tamales. - [Tellico Goods & Gear](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/tellico-goods-gear/): Downtown Tellico Plains, the basecamp for Cherokee National Forest adventures, inspired the owners of Tellico Goods & Gear to transform a dormant historical building into a vibrant destination. Our branding process aimed to create a modern yet nostalgic experience, starting with a vibrant yellow inspired by local goldenrod to contrast with the historic industrial backdrop. We incorporated modern illustrations of outdoor activities and vintage-style letterpress type to evoke the feel of an old general store. The result was a blend of past and present, filling the store with thoughtful, warm details that celebrate the unique offerings of Tellico Plains. - [Vida & The Vault](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/vida-the-vault/): Spaces in the City planned to convert the ground level of the historic Holston Bank into a pan-latin restaurant and the lower level into a 1920s inspired cocktail bar. We were tasked with creating two sister brands with their own spirit, celebrating art deco style. We were inspired by deco travel posters for Latin America for Vida. Design elements were taken from the stair railing and plaster detailing in the space. We tied the two brands together with typography and gold in the color palettes. For The Reserve membership program, we came up with an antique safe deposit box key as their proof of membership. - [Stories Stairwell Mural](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/stories-stairwell-mural/): In collaboration with Downtown Knoxville, we created a mural for the Gay Street-Jackson Avenue Stairwell, the main pedestrian entry into the Old City during the viaduct renovation. We aimed to bring vibrancy to what was an uninviting and forgotten stairwell. The illustrations set off in bright colors combine centuries of Knoxville’s history, people, and culture, creating a visual celebration of the city’s unique stories. The mural is also a visual scavenger hunt that can be played with a companion brochure and website. - [Inside of Knoxville](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/inside-of-knoxville/): Inside of Knoxville is a local blog run by Alan Sims who gets the inside scoop on what’s happening in the city. His existing blog was extremely popular in the community and ready for a strong brand identity to reflect the quality of his content. Taking the concept of finding the latest in the city, we feature a magnifying glass searching within the word Knoxville that also doubles as the Sunsphere or a location pin. Alan requested a classic blog layout with ads running down the side. We wanted the site to feel like a professional news site, but with a touch of charm and personality. - [Bella](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/bella/): For this fresh new Italian eatery in Downtown Maryville, the client chose Bella for the name, “beautiful“ in Italian. Attempting to live up to the name, we had an excuse to make a beautiful brand. We drew influence from Italian café menus and signage. We modified an antique floral lithograph for the hero image and created a custom script logotype inspired by a fettucine noodle. - [Fibertech](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/fibertech/): Techmer PM, a national company that produces additives for the plastics and fiber industries, came to us to brand their conference Fibertech. The conference welcomes global fiber industry leaders and centers around the latest innovations in colorant and additives for the fiber market. Looking for a contemporary approach, we developed a modern grid system of colorful graphic linework to reference fibers. The grid for digital use animates in like stitching. - [National Parks Service](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/national-parks-service/): For their centennial anniversary, the National Park Service advertised 9 National Parks in East Tennessee and surrounding areas at McGhee Tyson Airport. Foregoing typical airport advertising, we created “Airport Park”, wrapping the baggage claim area with nearly 2,000 square feet of custom illustration and graphics. The dramatic display showcases each park’s natural beauty, history and features in a style reminiscent of vintage National Park posters. Due to the success of this project, what was originally intended to be a temporary installation has become an evergreen fixture in the airport. - [UT College of Architecture + Design](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/ut-college-of-architecture-design/): To celebrate the 50th anniversary of UT’s School of Architecture and Design, we created an invitation suite and a custom mark inspired by the school’s iconic architecture. Using understated grayscale tones with pops of orange, the design achieved an elegant sophistication within the university’s brand colors. - [Tako Taco](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/tako-taco/): Tako Taco is a one-of-a-kind Japanese, Latin-American street food fusion restaurant. “Tako” or octopus in Japanese became the brand’s hero. We went full on playful with a hand-painted Mexican tile taco “rug” and giant octopus taking over the glass wall of windows like a giant fish tank. - [Maple Hall](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/maple-hall/): Maple Hall’s spirited bowling experience redefines the classic alley, blending rich history with handcrafted bites and cocktails in the old JC Penney building. To meet the client’s goals, our branding process focused on recapturing the timeless essence of bowling, but in an understated contemporary style. We created a custom hand-drawn logotype inspired by embroidery on vintage bowling shirts. Where possible we integrated classic bowling references into the brand materials such as scorecard line work in the menus or the exterior neon sign. - [Knoxville Guidebook](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/knoxville-guidebook/): Historic Knoxville offers a wide-ranging guided tour to scores of places and institutions relevant to the city’s little known but endlessly fascinating history. To convey the history in a fun and charming way like Jack Neely’s writing, we mashed up typefaces from various eras, selected a broad color palette with historic leanings and developed tons of custom illustration and maps. - [Shyft](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/shyft/): Shyft is a design and innovation conference hosted by Techmer PM, a national plastics manufacturer. The theme innovation and shifting forward, is carried through in shifting color and forms. The connecting circles motif is a dramatic play on a polymer network. As polymer molecules connect to form a network, participants join together for the conference. - [Old City Athletic Club](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/old-city-athletic-club/): This community-oriented gym in the Old City offers group classes, personal training, and state-of-the-art equipment. We were approached to create a brand that would stand out in the typical commercial gym market. The client asked for a turn of the century fitness club vibe. We were inspired by the ancient Greeks, who championed physical fitness and strength. Bringing in this reference to classical antiquity, we leveraged an early 20th century illustration of a mythological winged bull for the mark. The bull gives the brand an established and distinguished look strong enough to stand alongside the late 1880s building where the gym is located. - [Ruby Ball](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/ruby-ball/): In celebration of their 40 year anniversary, the Knoxville Opera Guild, wanted to celebrate the ruby theme with the phrase “The Queen of Stones, The Stone of Kings“. Leaning into the regal gemstone theme and drama of the opera, we took inspiration from crowns of the British monarchy and paired that with some medieval-esque typography for extra flair. The modern line work sets off individual pieces as rubies in themselves. - [Kefi](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/kefi/): Kefi is a posh, yet affordable, Mediterranean restaurant and cocktail bar. We developed a custom letterset for the logo and brand inspired by hand-drawn Greek letterforms. The brand’s rich colors and textures mirror the lush interiors. - [High Ground Park](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/high-ground-park/): High Ground Park is positioned on the remains of the earthen Fort Higley. This series of ten interpretive signs along the trail tells the story of the Civil War in Knoxville and explains the site’s features and Union’s defense here. Every detail was influenced by Civil War materials down to the hand-forged sign frames, inspired by artifacts and metalworking of the time. - [The Seduction of Miss Evelyn Hazen](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/evelyn-hazen/): This book tells the true story of a young local socialite who plunged into the national spotlight when she sued her ex-fiance for breach of promise to marry in a landmark case. Petals fall from the flowers on the cover, the marbled inside looks a little sickly, lovely type is contrasted with typewriter as in 1930s court documents, these design choices were made to reflect the contrast of Evelyn’s respected family legacy with the seduction and aftermath. - [The Daniel](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/the-daniel/): The Daniel, originally a garment factory in the late 1890s, is now retail space and upscale apartments with a minimalist style, allowing the textures of 100+ years to shine. The logotype is a custom 1890s inspired script, reminiscent of a needle and thread. Brand motifs and typography were pulled from industrial sewing ephemera, all implemented in a minimal way to reflect the interior aesthetic. - [West View Historic Cemetery District](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/west-view-historic-cemetery-district/): For almost a century, African-Americans from across Knoxville were buried in this cluster of cemeteries. Long overgrown and all but forgotten, community groups led an effort to rehabilitate them. To elegantly tell their story in a new century, we were inspired by cemetery signage and maps from the 1920s. - [Gilded Age Gala](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/gilded-age-gala/): Knox Heritage hosted the Gilded Age Gala to cap off Historic Westwood’s capital campaign and secure the historic home permanently. In the grand tradition of a Gilded Age Ball, guests rang in the new year with a lavish multi-course dinner, champagne, live performances, and dancing. To capture the extravagance of the time period, we embellished the materials with over-the-top custom gold filigree. Potential sponsors were hand-delivered chocolates and golden boxes with invitations adorned in gold foil. - [Knox Whiskey Works](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/knox-whiskey-works/): Knox Whiskey Works is proud to be Knoxville’s first whiskey distillery. To give the brand a distinct local flavor, the typography was heavily influenced by historic sign painting on Jackson Ave, where the distillery is located. It was a booming economic corridor with wholesalers, warehouses, industry and plenty of saloons. We paired this with bold color to give the brand a new modern style to stand out on store liquor shelves amongst typical whiskey labeling. - [William Pryor Book](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/william-pryor-book/): “A Good Life” by William Pryor is a memoir featuring short stories from the author’s youth. The design is intentionally simple, allowing the charm and authenticity of the photos and stories of William’s life to take center stage. - [Great Smoky Mountain Council](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/great-smoky-mountain-council/): The Great Smoky Mountain Council is our local council within the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The main goal of the project was to create a robust website, completely revamping what was existing and combining a few websites into one. They were also looking for a unique brand that would work within BSA, but feel more inviting and less corporate. We drew upon the charm of the patches as a brand motif and incorporated custom illustration to appeal to all age groups from the youngest Cub Scouts all the way to alumni. - [Townsend Tourism](https://www.robineaster.com/projects/townsend-tourism/): https://www.robineaster.com/wp-content/uploads/townsendtourism-video.mp4
